Generadora Fénix signs electricity supply contract in Mexico City

07.11.2018

Mota-Engil, through its subsidiary in the energy area in Mexico – Generadora Fénix – has started providing electricity for Mexico City’s public lighting, covering approximately 18 million inhabitants for a 20-year period. This provision will be carried out 12 hours a day, estimating a consumption of 550 GWh a year, which will represent an invoicing of approximately 31 million euros in 2019. The activity of electricity generation and sale takes on a greater relevance in the Group’s turnover.

This electricity generation process derives mostly from clean energy sources, thus representing an important milestone for Mexico City.

Generadora Fénix was established in October 2015, in a partnership between the Mota-Engil Group and the Mexican Electrician Union, and was the first private power Generation Company participating in Mexico’s new liberalized market.
